Melaney was born and raised in Springfeld, Illinois. She enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17, and served honorably from 2012-2017 as a military working dog handler.
During her tour of service, she provided explosive detection support to Homeland installations and many federal agencies, completed personal protection missions for former President Obama and President Trump, and support for high-profile events directly affecting national security and safety.
As a training NCO, Melaney has trained dogs in explosives and narcotics detection aggression techniques used by law enforcement.
Melaney worked directly with handlers deployed in support of worldwide combat operations, training them to operate safely and efficiently with their working dogs.
She worked with elite trainers at the Department of Defense's Dog Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, where she learned the intricate details of how a working military dog is trained.
In her various travels, Melaney also learned how a dog is a steadfast companion.
Melaney founded Army Dog Training Camp because she loves to share her knowledge and joy with dog owners who desire the perfect partner.
Melaney lives in Louisville with her husband Casey, their rescue dog Stella, and Melaney’s retired military working dog, Miso. In her spare time, Melaney enjoys watching Chicago Cubs baseball and cooking.
